With a belly full of chicken I played my second showcase at a place called The Free Times Café on College Street. A cute little pub/bar with a tiny stage out the back and a neat guitar mural which you can just about make out in the photo. My lovely friend Steve took this picture during soundcheck.
On the last day of the festival Aussie Barbecue happened. This is a Sounds Australia event with a big bunch of wonderful Australian bands playing in a great pub called Horseshoe Tavern. It starts at 12 and people drink beers and eat sausages and listen to music. What could be better than that? It was a great way to hang out with all the Aussie musicians I had already met during the festival and collaboratively nurse our hangovers with… MORE BEER!
Below is a pic I took during King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. This band was unreal and quite the talk of the festival. If you look carefully you can see Tim Rogers in a checked jacket on the left, dancing his socks off.
This was one of my other highlights of the barbecue, Melbourne band Tully on Tully. They had an incredible energy on stage and catchy epic sounding tracks that you couldn’t help move to. After the show we got chatting, drank some beers and then went to eat some delicious Japanese food.
That night after some extensive gig-hopping, the Tully on Tully crew and I finished off our festival experience with a little unknown band called Little Dragon. It was epic. Bass that shakes your entire body.
So with this cheesy pic I will say thank you Canadian Music Week 2014 for having me. It was my first time performing overseas and just an incredible experience all round. I met a wonderful bunch of musicians from all over the world, ate my fair share of poutine, and danced next to Tim Rogers.
I’m not going to forget that in a hurry.
