With their new EP I’m Not Making Good Decisions out on Friday, this week is looking to be quite the exciting one for Melbourne based New Zealanders, Bakers Eddy. Through 2017, the band has been steadily making a name for themselves on stages alongside the likes of Gang of Youths, The Rubens and Highly Suspect and next month, the group will be continuing to spur on that momentum in heading to the UK for the first time, performing at The Great Escape.
Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here, though – let’s swing our attention back to this new EP. As the guys explain, linking up with Homesurgery Recordings‘ Tom Larkin helped bring this one to life…
The whole EP was recorded live and Homesurgery Recordings to capture the band’s energetic live performance. Initially, all these songs were written in our Essendon lounge on unplugged electric guitars and a practice pad. It wasn’t until we played them in studio, that they came to life.
Jack Shit for You
One of the first songs we wrote out of the 50 candidates for the EP. The song is a sad and desperate search for love, hindered by the drink and a google maps malfunction.
Good Decisions
Moving to a new country was an exciting time for us, but we found ourselves constantly making bad decisions as well found our way in Melbourne. Originally called “AC”, “Good Decisions” only had two chords, A and C. That’s why the words “Aye” and “see” are scattered throughout the 1st verse. Churned out just recently, it’s the last addition to our EP.
Loaded Gun
An upbeat track about a girl. At the core of the song is the bass line. The verse has spitty attitude and the chorus catchy lead vocals. Chanting gang vocals in the middle eight make it a real sing along.
Sad & Happy
The latest single off the EP. This song is about the modern day dependency we all have on on social media – “It’s not anti social media, its just a self observation.” We had this song kicking around for a while but it only came together during our 50 song challenge, set by producer Tom Larkin.
Talkback Radio
A gooey groove track.. yet punchy. Utilising a Sticky Fingers inspired riff, this song is a bit of a fuck you to who you’re in an altercation with.
If You See Kay
A frantic punk track, with trashy drums, fuzzed up gats and rowdy gang vocals. A song about a FUCKFACE which is as subtle as a nail through the foot! “If You See Kay” was never intended to be anything more than a piss take, but ended up being far too fun not to release!
