Melbourne-based songwriter Camp 8 has released his first track of 2020, the sumptuous and soothing new single “Hurt”.
The brainchild of Reuben Apirana, Camp 8 is still project in its infancy. Bursting onto the scene with his own distinctive slice of introspective indie-folk. His debut single, “Everything”, was featured as a Track of the Day last year. He’s also been gaining the attention of Triple J and KCRW in the US.
Apirana has been on a run of form with his single releases to date. “Everything”, “Shudder” and “Barbie” were all quality tracks. That trend is continuing into 2020 with “Hurt”. There’s welcome a continuity of style and tone to “Hurt”. As with his previous tracks, that wonderful sense of understatement still comes through. Nothing is forced or overworked. Instead, you’ve got Apirana’s sincere and emotive vocals nestled on top of an atmospheric and muted instrumental.
There might be any touring opportunities for the time being. But, Apirana remains busy. Outside of the world of music and recording he’s a logistics and operations manager in a warehouse, in an industry of unloading containers.
Apirana is something of a reluctant ‘star’, never really wanting to be a frontman. But his work with Camp 8, is unsurprisingly getting him noticed. Get yourself around new single “Hurt” today.
