L.A based collective Emotional Oranges have hit us with another stunner, spinning through a funky bassline, hypnotic drum pattern and some seriously catchy pop melodies for “Good to Me”.
Released as the latest single from their excellent 8-track mixtape The Juice Vol. 1, the new song and video further reiterates E.O as one of the music industry’s most exciting new acts.
Waxing on a troubled relationship, the dynamic cross between male and female perspectives drives up a solid examination of yearning and misunderstanding, catching the connective tissue of a fading bond and trying desperately to hold on.
The track follows similarly complex and beautifully detailed R&B-tinged singles like “Someone Else” and “Personal” as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race theme song “Motion”, continuing to squeeze the mysterious collective’s provocative blend of futuristic funk and R&B.
The dimly-lit video, shot in an abandoned studio with Danilo Parra as the director, explores the various mediums of pottery and dance, each showcasing a different perspective of romanticism and the haunting feeling of losing someone you’re truly connected to.
“When an intimate relationship between two people is very strong, they begin to solidify together”, explained Emotional Oranges in a press release. “And when that type of tight bond is psychically separated, the spirit is still there and continues to be connected. Pottery and the idea of building something with your hands felt like the perfect visual representation of our message”.
