Track of the Day: Greta Stanley “Soak Into This” (2020)

Greta Stanley

Far North Queenslander Greta Stanley has released a new track, “Soak Into This” as her first single for 2020. This follows on from her triumphant EP Sun In My Eyeswhich was released last year. Stanley has well and truly established herself on the Australian indie-pop scene, with sold-out headline shows last year, and quality supports with the likes of Emma Louise and Newton Falkner. She has also released today a vibrant dreamy video to complement this gloriously upbeat track.

“Soak Into This” was co-written with Tobias Kuhn, who has worked with the likes of Milky Chance and Matt Corby, and was mixed by Matthew Neighbour (Matt Corby, Courtney Barnett).

The song talks about the excitement of developing a new relationship or friendship – something which might be a little harder to do at the moment, but for that is all the more worthwhile. Greta explains “It’s about having fun and the exciting feeling you get when you enter a new relationship, whether it’s romantic or a friendship. I wrote it thinking about all the fun I’d been having in my new relationship, the nights out with friends, festivals…but then the slow and more intense moments [are] where you really feel something growing.”

Stanley has really flexed her impressive vocal chops on this one. The video is equally impressive, with Greta working with Brendan Schoenmaker on it. They had worked together on an earlier release, “Pour”.
