Track of the Day: Hallie “Sympathy” (2019)

Hallie from Brisbane has been on an upward trajectory since winning the Triple J Unearthed Bigsound Competition 2019 with her single “Nice Like Rice”. From there she released her debut EP Wink Wink Nudge Nudge to great acclaim, and tomorrow releases her latest single, “Sympathy”, which we are featuring today as our Track of the Day.

The song is a self-critical introspective song, where Hallie questions herself about her behaviour. To be honest, I feel we should all do this a little more often. Be kinder, gentler, nicer to each other. As well as coming with a spiritually nourishing theme, it’s beautifully delivered, letting the vocals shine and soar.

Hallie describes the background for the song: “Sympathy’ is a song I wrote after feeling really angry about letting myself fall into a brief trap of gossip and judgment in conversation.  I just really didn’t want to be that dickhead and I needed to put myself in my place to make sure I didn’t get caught up again. I hope ‘Sympathy’ is the refresher listeners need, so they rethink how they want to be spending their energy!”

The track was produced by Oscar Dawson from Holy Holy.

Hallie has the following shows coming up:

21st Feb – Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane (supporting Charlie Collins)
19th March – Waywards, Sydney
20th March – Ciderfest, UNSW Roundhouse
