Sharing his first new single since the release of his remarkable 2015 debut, Jamie xx has “tried to be less precious” with his ideas. “Idontknow” represents an outlet for the producer’s frustration over not being able to finish any music for awhile.
“Now, we can’t go out to dance and we need an outlet more than ever,” said Jamie in an Instagram post about the new single. “I hope you dance to it at home and let go for a moment.”
Erratic vocal samples and a complicated breakbeat prop the track up and give it an instant, and infectious, hit of irrepressible energy. Something that’s sorely needed in these strange times.
The single has been making the rounds on the club circuit since last year, supported by the likes of Four Tet and Caribou, which should give you a good idea of what kind of playlists it fits into.
