Track of the Day: Left Field Messiah “AM Moonlight” (2020)

In the early 2000s, Canadian group Hot Hot Heat, led by frontman Steve Bays, were tearing up dance floors with their unique blend of indie rock, dance-punk, and post-punk revival. While they never achieved overwhelming commercial success, the band maintained a devoted fan base right up until they called it quits in 2016.

This week, however, Bays is back with a new project: Left Field Messiah. A supergroup of sorts, here Bays has teamed up with Jeremy Ruzumna (Fitz & The Tantrums) and Erik Janson (Wildling) to form an accomplished trio.

Their debut single “AM Moonlight” – today’s track of the day – showcases the band’s amalgamation of genres. With its fusion of funk, indie rock, and synth-pop, the track will have you dancing in your living room.

The group’s debut album is scheduled for release in early 2021 and promises to be a rollicking good listen.
