Melbourne emcee Maundz is taking zero prisoners on new track “Red Velvet”, bringing fellow local Remi along for a smooth lesson in swift, punchy lyricism.
Benefitting from two vastly different deliveries, Maundz’s energetic and Remi’s infectiously laid back, “Red Velvet” makes the most of this retro production from Perth’s Rob Shaker. It serves as the first single from Maundz’s forthcoming project True North, the long-awaited follow up to his acclaimed debut Nobody’s Business which was released four years ago.
Capped with a back-and-forth sample paying homage to Big L and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the textured throwback beat proves a perfect showcase for Maundz to flex on his return to the mic, contrasting nicely with Remi’s slick wordplay which brings a little funk to the scene.
“As soon as I heard this beat, I felt like milk on silk”, said Maundz when asked about the track. “Walking down the red carpet in a tux Dumb & Dumber style, ready to shake a leg with some killer dance combos”.
“In reality, I suck at dancing”, he added. “So I had to enlist my man Remi to bring that extra funk for the fiends”.
Maundz will soon be announcing tour dates for the new album, which is scheduled for released in September. Reportedly, five music videos have already been recorded.
