Melbourne soul outfit The Teskey Brothers are sticky true the wholesome, Motown-indebted sound that has turned them into one of the country’s finest bands with new single (and video) “Hold Me”. It’s more of that irresistible foot-stomping and hand-clapping funk, leaving the city behind for the open air of the country, both in song and in visuals.
Produced by Paul Butler, who has produced for modern soul greats like Michael Kiwanuka and St Paul & The Broken Bones, “Hold Me” is from the band’s forthcoming second album Run Home Slow and should instantly perk anticipation with its bare-bones approach, making brilliant use of just vocals, hands, feet and only a few instruments.
Of the new album, the brothers have promised a “step up” from their critically acclaimed 2017 album Half Mile Harvest , and if this is any indication then that surely rings true.
