Violent Femmes’ Brian Ritchie curates a huge program for MOFO 2016!

MOFO 2016, MONA’s Festival of Music and Art, will be storming back through Hobart in January with over 300 artists confirmed for their eclectic and diverse program! Curated by Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes and The Break fame, MOFO has been described as being a ‘beautiful broken up beat of old and new’. Recently announced on the line up were the Flaming Lips, but the weird and wonderful definitely doesn’t stop there.

Also featuring as highlights of the 2016 music program are solo percussionist Evelyn Glennie, award winning composer Antonio Sánchez (performing his drums-only score to a screening of Birdman), Japan’s DJ Krush, Norway’s Jenny HvalKate Tempest and Kate Miller-Heidke, who will be performing new work with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

The entire MONA site will be shut from January 15-17, with only ticket holders allowed access to the offerings on site, including the huge retrospective Gilbert & George: The Art ExhibitionMathieu Briand‘s Et In Libertalia Ego, Vol. II project and the Daniel Mudie Cunningham-curated Katthy Cavaliere: Loved exhibit.

Ritchie says of MOFO’s offerings in 2016: “Mona is a power spot in Tasmania and we are thrilled to populate many of its nooks, crannies and spaces with music, art and sound this summer. During MOFO 2016, we intend to tickle all the senses at Mona and venues around Hobart, including the ferry trip up the River Derwent from the waterfront to the museum.”

Different events will be taking place around Hobart for the duration of the festival, with site likes the Federation Concert Hall, Moonah Arts Centre, Rosny Barn and more all being brought on board.
