Last Thursday the ARIA awards went down, and amongst all the recognised artists and bands, one stood out from the crowd; Perth rockers Tame Impala. This year the band took home not only “Group of the Year” but, “Album of the Year” and “Best Rock Album”. While this is a feat in itself, it also means that Tame Impala are now part of a very elite and exclusive club, consisting of just one other Aussie band.
Tame Impala have now won the Album of the Year award twice, a feat shared (and surpassed) by the legendary Powderfinger who remain the record holders at three wins – the first in 1999 for Internationalist, then (of course) Odyssey Number Five in 2001, and Vulture Street in 2003.
If Tame continue this trend (which we have little doubt they will) then they could easily be breaking this record when album number four arrives.
