It’s finally here – the Summer season of festivals that not only provide an eclectic mix of the best acts currently touring, but require a road trip which offers the chance to visit some of Australia’s most unique and stunning regional locations. Here are our top reasons for why you need to plan a road trip to Forster, NSW for the third installment of Grow Your Own Festival on January 12th, 2019.
The lineup
Regional festivals typically offer a stronger foundation of local Australian musicians and acts. This is no different for Grow Your Own which has always boasted an impressive domestic showcase.
In 2019, the festival is hosting the likes of DMA’s, Hockey Dad, our solo artist of the year Jack River, The Preatures, Mallrat, Goons of Doom, Totty, Mild West, Miniskirt and Belle Badi. The festival, in partnership with Secret Sounds is successfully bringing national music to a regional area.
In an effort to pair musical delights with your stomach (and brain), Grow Your Own has a focus on the local sustainable produce movement and is all-in on highlighting the best food and drinks producers from the Great Lakes and Manning area.
From kombucha cocktails to micro bakeries to locally made cheeses that are paired with locally made wines to a plethora of young producers who want to share their knowledge and creations.
A pop-up cinema will also be on the festival grounds showing Sydney Film Festival and Byron International Film Festival film “Teach A Man To Fish” based on the historic, indigenous family the Saunders, as well as other films.
The location
Road-tripping and making an adventure out of the journey to a destination festival is one of the greatest things of the whole experience. From unique locals to the unimitable sights of the Aussie landscape that hugs you from start to finish, hitting the road creates even more memories. Plus, being removed from your hometown lowers the chance of running into people you know so you can dance/rock out even harder.
Grow Your Own happens annually in Forster/Tuncurry on the Mid North Coast of NSW. It’s a 3 hour drive north of Sydney, 1.5 hours from Newcastle.
It’s an area that is streaked with beaches and lakes that roam into the horizon. Since the festival is held at the height of Summer, the town will be buzzing with activities and accommodation options.
Grow Your Own is held on January 12th, 2019 at Harry Elliot Oval in Forster-Tuncurry, NSW.
