The Queensland Music industry recently announced the winners of the annual Queensland Music Awards for this year, celebrating statewide excellence across a variety of categories at a ceremony held at Brisbane Powerhouse. Presented by BOQ and Hutchinson Builders, the awards seek to acknowledge the previous 12 months in Queensland music as well as look towards rising acts which seek to make an impact in the months to come.
Unstoppable band Violent Soho walked away big winners of the night with two awards, including Song of the Year and the Rock Award for single “Like Soda”, sharing some of ceremonies highlights with Luke Daniel Peacock, who also walked away with two accolades to his name, taking out the Indigenous category as well as the prestigious $10k Billy Thorpe Scholarship, supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
Performances on the night included indie-psych group The Belligerents and Indigenous award nominee Emily Wurramura who delivered a beautiful performance of her reflective single “Black Smoke”.
Album of the Year was awarded to four-piece Blank Realm from Brisbane, who saw success with their acclaimed Illegals in Heaven release, while Jarryd James picked up Highest Selling Single by a Queenslander for last year’s mega-hit “Do You Remember”. The self-titled LP from The Veronicas took out Highest Selling Album.
