The Uniden App Cam SOLO X2K Bell provides some fantastic value for money

Uniden has released their latest wireless doorbell with integrated camera, audio and storage to deliver an affordable and no-fuss option that doesn’t require an ongoing payment to a backup service to access the interactions saved on the device.

I was fortunate enough to be able to check out the Uniden App Cam SOLO X2K Bell and was delightfully impressed, not only by the price but the different options that higher-end doorbells leave out and force you into a subscription service.

Design

The Uniden App Cam SOLO X2K Bell is sleek and requires a basic installation to work, alongside a plug-in chimer you can place around your house. The doorbell camera and mic also connect to your mobile device to interact with the person at your front door.

It is important to note that it does not require any wires or power to plug into and uses solar power to recharge its batteries. Built into the camera is thermo sense technology, it has heat and movement sensor detection that will send pings to your device. It has an intelligence unit built into it so it can detect minor interference as opposed to genuine visitors to your door.

Functionality & Performance

The installation is probably the easiest part of this, there is no complex setup with wiring or anything too complicated and the app easily connects to your device and wireless plug-in chime in your home. There is a mounting unit that holds it securely in place, allowing access to the SD card slot for easy swap out and downloading your interactions onto another device.

Leaving an electronic doorbell in the elements is always a concern, particularly in Australia when things get toasty in summer. This is something that has been at the forefront of the designer’s mind when creating this device and can proudly withstand the extreme hot and cold of Australian weather.

Software

The App Cam Solo X2K Wirefree video doorbell does connect to Uniden + allowing you to access any saved footage which can be easily stored on an SD card via the slot provided or the Uniden cloud.

This does allow you to retrieve old footage, if, like me, a courier claims they didn’t pick up a parcel, but did, the 2K camera stores this footage and easily allows access at any time. Fortunately, I was able to access and download the proof of courier pickup, saving me several hundred dollars. If you are not home and want that contactless delivery, there is two-way talk so you can easily instruct delivery drivers where to go and the best place to leave your Uber Eats order.

Verdict & Value

Overall, the Uniden App Cam Solo X2K Wirefree Video Door Bell is one of the biggest tech surprises of 2024.

In the overcrowded market of these devices with major players like Ring and Google angling for your business, Uniden has refined the essential features of what’s needed in these devices and adapted them to fit in perfectly with the harsh Australian climate, integrated solar power and most importantly, not forcing you into a locked on-going subscription service just to see your previous footage, all without compromising quality.
