Straight from South Carolina, the world-renowned pitmaster Rodney Scott will be heading to Sydney for the first time to set up shop in Harpoon Harry’s Public Bar for a two-day-only barbecue pop-up this month. Chef Morgan McGlone, who is currently holding the culinary reigns at the Surry Hills venue, is good friends with Rodney, and has convinced him to fire up the low-and-slow method for the pop-up, cooking up traditional whole hog BBQ over the coals for 24 hours, serving that pig up with his legendary vinegar and pepper-based sauce on some squishy white bread.
Don’t know who Rodney is? Well the guy is a legend as far as American BBQ goes, and people from all over the states travel to his iconic diner, Scott’s Bar-B-Que, to get a taste of the signature slow-cooked whole pig. Not convinced? Watch Anthony Bourdain explain why Rodney is one of the most respected pitmasters in the world in the video below.
On Sunday 15th May and Monday 16th May, Anthony Purharich of Vic’s Premium Quality Meats will be hosting the pop-up with authentic BBQ, music, and even some moonshine from the South. Head to Hotel Harry’s official Facebook Page for more information.
