Following a successful run of shows in the US which included SXSW in Texas and showcases in LA and NYC, acclaimed Australian post-punk band RVG are set to embark on a 12-stop European tour alongside UK band Shame in May.
Having their gig in SXSW described as embodying “pure self-expression the way the Muses intended” (Austin Chronicle), the quartet have since released the music video for “Eggshell World” off their debut album A Quality of Mercy. Along with their main music video “IBM”, the group is set to make their mark on the rock-and-roll world when they travel around Europe in May.
The video for ‘IBM’ shows the band performing in a big white room, before breaking off into a date between a man (played by drummer Marc Nolte) and his old computer. On the single, singer and guitarist Romy Vager shares that “I wanted to write something that was similar to something Robyn Hitchcock would write in that it makes a relatable point but does it from a ridiculous angle”
Debuting in late 2017, it has become pretty evident that RVG is not your everyday garage band. Hailing from Melbourne’s northern suburbs, their self-released debut album features brutal honesty and wit, with each song delivering compassion and commitment, from discussing the isolation of being a trans (lead singer Romy has identified as a transgender) to the myth of a tortured artist. Having since signed with Isla Angus for Europe and Lucy Beach at Paradigm for North America, along with receiving four nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards, and taking home a National Music Award for Best Live Voice, it is clear that RVG is scheduled to be one of the most talked about bands of 2018.
The five piece UK band they’ll be joining, Shame, are no strangers to the Australian stage, having made their local debut this year as part of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Formed in 2014, the quintet released their debut album in early 2018, catching the attention of the likes of Pitchfork Paris and Glastonbury, and having been described as “one of London’s best new bands” (Laneway Festival), it’s nothing but success for the carefree group.
