Pioneering Scottish craft beer company BrewDog have announced plans to open their first Australian facility in Brisbane with production to commence by 2019. The name which has been at the forefront of the craft beer revolution in Europe for years perked the interest of the Brisbane City Council and their economic development board Brisbane Marketing, which teamed with the Queensland Government to secure BrewDog’s $30 million investment, which has the potential to create more than 150 new jobs.
“Brisbane is a place where market-leading and innovative businesses can thrive, and I’m certain BrewDog will feel at home in our welcoming and progressive city”, said Brisbane Lord Mayer Graham Quirk, who sees the company fitting in nicely with locals Newstead Brewing and Green Beacon. “The ease of doing business here, coupled with low costs, growing infrastructure and extensive support services all contribute to Brisbane being recognised as an attractive investment destination”, added Brisbane Market CEO Brett Fraser.
The entry of BrewDog into the Australian market will also allow the company to roll out export to New Zealand and Asia, though the facility – likely to be located at Murarrie – will initially focus solely on the Australian market. More details will roll out closer to opening.
