Music festivals, these days, are as much about the experience off stage as they are about the ones to be had in front of them, with the ’boutique’ nature of these events drawing huge numbers of people out each year to spend money on the culinary delights that can be found at each site. The standards for festival food and drink options at festivals have risen considerably over the last few years especially and when it’s come to the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, it’s been obvious, the amount of effort put into curating an impressive list of nosh options.
2018’s tour is no different. This week, the festival announces its collaboration with one of the country’s renowned chefs, David Moyle (Franklin, Hobart and Longsong, Melbourne) in ‘Royal Moyle’. Moyle will helm the curation of food and beverage pairings at the Laneway Festival events in Melbourne and Sydney, highlighting an expert mix of fresh and acclaimed chefs, mixologists and restaurants.
At an exclusive tasting even in Melbourne yesterday, ‘Royal Moyle’ was unveiled, with attendees able to sample some of the wares set to be on offer.
Says Moyle of the ‘Royal Moyle’ collaboration: “It was a natural fit to curate a food and drink experience at Laneway. I love music, I think all hospo people have an affinity with music people so I see this as an opportunity to celebrate the bond between music and food. I have invited a bunch of seriously great chefs along to have fun designing food to be enjoyed at Laneway and Shaun is mixing up great drinks to compliment. For me this is about bringing fun back to food with a bunch of mates at an amazing Music Festival. So good!”
Come next February 3rd, Laneway Festival punters in Melbourne will be able to get amongst food and bev’s courtesy of Longsong, Embla, Smith & Daughters and Harley & Rose. Sydney’s event on February 4th will see Restaurant Hubert, Pinbone, Longsong and 10 William Street come together to pair up delicacies for the festival crowds.
The food will be matched with a range of cocktails courtesy of Shaun Byrne, Creator/Director of Maidenii Vermouth and Marionette Liqueur.
While the Royal Moyle collab is enough to get mouths watering, Laneway isn’t stopping there, expanding their food experience for 2018. A Deliveroo and Messina immersive pop up in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, while the following can be found on ground at a Laneway near you.
