Delta Air Lines now serves Shake Shack burgers onboard

In November 2024, Delta Air Lines announced that it will start serving Shake Shack’s burgers in an industry-first, sky-high collaboration that has completely shaken* the idea of airline food.

From December 1st, America’s leading airline gave First Class passengers (on routes over 900 miles) the option to pre-select a Shake Shack cheeseburger as their meal option, nodding to the iconic comfort food and plating that up with chips, Ceaser salad and a dark chocolate brownie.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, the inclusion of a Shack Shack burger at 30,000 feet was well-received. And an inevitable expansion has been confirmed.

While the Shake Shack and Delta partnership was first trialed on flights out of Boston, the carrier has now expanded that to more First Class passengers on flights over 900 miles. This includes services flying out of Delta’s hub in Atlanta, New York-LaGuardia, Seattle, and Los Angeles, where Delta has already completely transformed the once-nightmarish LAX experience.

“Customers are raving about the Shake Shack experience onboard our flights after serving more than 10,000 burgers out of Boston since launching in December,” offered Stephanie Laster, Managing Director of Onboard Service at Delta.

“This is part of our work to partner with brands our customers already know and love while continuing to raise the bar for the in-flight experience – whether that’s making your favourite cheeseburger available at 35,000 feet, or ensuring you have a variety of fresh meals to choose from that fuel you on your adventure.”

The way it works is fairly straightforward. If you’ve booked into Delta First Class and your on one of the participating services, all you’ll need to do is pre-select a Shake Shack Cheeseburger as your entree for either lunch or dinner. Make sure you do this before you fly, although you can make and edit any meal selections up to 24 hours in advance using the Fly Delta app (or the link you’ll get in your e-mail confirmation).

Delta is clearly shaking* up its food offerings for premium passengers to make the pointy-end even more enticing for people zipping around the States. The airline’s popular Jon & Vinny’s braised meatballs with Bianco DiNapoli marinara, for example, were just expanded to more flights after only being available on services flying out of LAX.

Delta One’s newest partner is also Champagne Taittinger, shouldering the other end of the in-air hospitality spectrum by appropriately upping the standards of drink as well.
