After causing global headlines with their Pokeburgers, the insanely popular Down N’ Out pop up in the city has officially extended to Sydney’s west, opening up on Penrith’s main strip of High Street. The team behind the pop-up, Hashtag Burgers, have been serving up In-N-Out inspired burgers to massive queues for a few months now, watching demand skyrocket so high that a second pop-up was in order.
Down N’ Out chef Sebastien Cens, along with the Hashtag Burgers duo of Ben Kagan and Archie Saliba, will be serving up the same menu as the CBD venue for those who head to the Penrith store, which opened just a few days ago. These will feature alongside some signature specials like the current mac’n’cheese burger, which is this week’s chef’s special. The rest of the menu is rounded out by spiked milkshakes, doughnuts, even classic American desserts like apple pie.
The staple fillings inside Down N’ Out’s signature buns include the Double – double wagyu beef, double American cheese, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, secret sauce – the single, a vego burger – spinach and ricotta patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, secret sauce – and – the Chick’N – southern fried chicken thigh with shredded lettuce, and house ranch. Burger add-ons available bring in the likes of bacon, an extra patty, a deep fried cheese patty, jalapeno poppers, and onion rings.
While pretty much every aspect of the Penrith pop-up will mirror what’s made the CBD so popular, the crew have also hooked up with Hope Estate to serve their beers on tap while Michael Broome (Small Bar Group) will man the bar along with Penrith local Brett Vallis. According to Broadsheet Broome and Vallis will be staying on when Down N’ Out pop-down, using the space to open a new bar dedicated to spirits and wine.
