Etihad Guest announces a 2024 status match for Australian passengers

Etihad

Every now and again, a major airline loyalty programs will announce a status match. This basically means that frequent flyers with elite status on any rival programs are able to gain complimentary (and instant) elite status with the airline offering the status match.

Basically, it’s a play for loyalty. And it seems Etihad Airways have chosen an opportune time to try and lure Australian passengers over to its points program, Etihad Guest.

It’s a particularly attractive offering for passengers who may have an expiring elite status coming up. Simply shifting it over to Etihad Guest will grant you complimentary equivalent status for three months. You’ll then be able to extend that status for another 12 months by taking just one eligible Etihad flight within those first three months.

The Gulf carrier is targeting members of 20 rival programs, including Qantas Frequent Flyer, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, British Airways Executive Club, Emirates Skywards, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and more.

To qualify you simply have to hold elite status with an eligible airline and be an Australian citizen. Etihad Guest has only extended this current offering to Silver and Gold tiers, however, so Platinum is off the table for now.

Once approved, customers will enjoy Etihad’s Silver or Gold Tier for three months. Again, if you want to extend for another 12 months then you’d need to take at least one eligible Etihad flight within those three months.

Tier status brings with it a host of benefits including priority check-in, complimentary additional baggage allowance, bonus miles, access to premium lounges and other exclusive perks.

There’s only an application fee that needs to be paid. If you’re applying for Silver then it’s US$59 (AU$91). For gold, you’re looking at US$99 (AU$153).

At Etihad’s home in Abu Dhabi, eligible Etihad Guest members will enjoy access to Etihad’s new Business Lounge where guests can indulge themselves in the lounge’s Constellation Bar at the Roof lounge and a range of dining options including live-cooking stations. Guests can also take advantage of the relaxation spaces, games room, family room, rejuvenating shower rooms and more before their flight.

You can submit your application here.
