First Taste: Doncaster’s popular Fish & Burger Co is back

Last Wednesday saw a launch night to celebrate the re-opening of trendy restaurant, Fish & Burger Co (F&BC). Located in Doncaster East just outside of Melbourne, the venue has been beautifully decorated and modified by design agency, Studio Equator. Light bulbs and greenery dangle from the ceiling, whilst natural light floods through to create an open and spacious ambiance. The combination of exposed brick walls alongside a mural painted by local street artist, Tarek (Instagram: @dem189) gives the room an undeniably on trend and modern feel. Interior aficionados look out for the number of electric neon signs scattered around the room – each one adds to an atmosphere that anyone would love to eat, drink and socialise in.

Let’s talk food…

First up, the expansive list of sides would be the perfect starter or addition to your meal. If you end up there within a group, you could even create your own chippy tapas and indulge in every dish to share! Think your classic seafood takeaway dishes including Salt and Pepper Calamari and Grilled Prawns, alongside some more quirky ideas: Mac and Cheese Croquettes, Crispy Fried Chicken Wings and American Waffle Fries! If attending, the Sliders are an absolute MUST. These mini burgers can be ordered as a pair or trio, with a selection of beef, chicken and prawn to be chosen from. Be sure to wash your grub down with the company’s own range of ciders (apple and pear), craft lager or pale ale.

Mains leave you with a vast choice from chunky burgers to flavoursome salads (go for the Quinoa, Pumpkin and Pomegranate for something a little different and super sweet) to old school Seafood Packs. If you’re feeling immensely greedy you can pimp up your burger by adding more patties, croquettes or even smashed avo. Competitive eaters, eat your hearts out!

Maybe your sweet tooth is left tingling when you’ve finished lining your stomach with the first and second course, but F&BC already have that covered too. The restaurant is now home to a Gelato & Shake Bar that consists of plenty of creative flavours, too tempting to resist. Apple Pie, Sicilian Nougat, Caramel & Salted Peanuts, Blood Orange Sorbet, you name it! Even if you’re just taking a stroll down Doncaster Road with a full belly, it would be foolish not to swing by for a scoop or two. Customers can also opt for a Gelato Shake by choosing your favourite flavour and being rewarded with something succulent to slurp on.

If, like me, that sweet tooth is so vast and insatiable that just one scoop of gelato won’t cut it, F&BC have gone above and beyond expectations in the dessert department. You can treat yourself to a milkshake that is so extravagant, it would be impossible not to flash it all over social media. Divulge in the Nutella Rocher Super Shake*… it is not merely a milkshake, but really a work of art topped with wafer straws, a gelato stuffed ice-cream cone, whipped cream, an actual jar of Nutella, and fairy floss. It’s every child’s most treasured dream and every dentist’s darkest nightmare. Go on, just do it for the ‘gram.

This well-priced nosh fits right within Melbourne’s famous food scene. Attentive and friendly staff make the dining experience all the more personal – leaving no box un-ticked. The official grand opening of the joint was this Saturday, 15 December and dine-in, takeaway and ordering online are now options for every customer.

Dearest Doncaster locals: Fish & Burger Co have so much to offer that it should probably become your new go-to with immediate effect. For everyone else in Melbourne: get yourself on the 907 bus down there this weekend, this vibrant restaurant is absolutely worth the journey.
