In today’s Flight review on AU Abroad, we take you on board one of the smaller domestic flights in the US with US Airways Express and one of their services from Gulfport, MS to Charlotte, NC (US 5126).
Airline: US Airways Express
Route: Gulfport, MS to Charlotte, NC (US 5126)
Aircraft: Bombardier CRJ-200 plane
Seat: 4D. Airplane has a 50 Seat Capacity with a 2-2 Layout
Scheduled Flight Time: 1 hour 43 minutes
On Schedule?: Yes. Part of the US Airways “Express” network. Taking the flight as the first leg of two to take me to Toronto, Canada. Easy transfer to my next flight in Charlotte, where I moved onto a Embraer E-170.
Frequent Flyer: DividendMiles. US Airways recently became part of American Airlines, moving it in the process from the Star Alliance Network into the OneWorld. They have maintained code-sharing partnerships with some Star Alliance Carriers, however, including Air New Zealand, whose program I’m a part of.
Meal Service: Complimentary non-alcoholic drinks as is common with most domestic airlines in the US. $7 cocktails and $3 snacks with cash payment only.
In-Flight Entertainment: None. However, Us Airways policy allows electronics to be used at “all stages of flight” if airplane mode is selected.
Comfort: I was lucky enough to have a spare seat next to me. Comfortable leather seats, but pretty old planes. Not “we still have cigarette ashtrays in our seats” old, but definitely worn enough. Smooth ride but this is a cold plane: Bring some extra socks.
Customer Service: Excellent service. The cabin’s single stewardess kindly catered to people who wanted to change seats before takeoff as it was thankfully, not a full flight. They’re pretty small seats!
