Forget the 1.25L bottle of Coke with your Pizza Hut Australia order. From today, the inescapable pizza brand is now chucking beer on the menu.
From $20, you can slap a six-pack on top of your pizza (or wings or pasta) order, although the concept has only so far rolled out in Queensland and Victoria. Plans are in place to extend nationally over the coming months, which I think will be fairly soon, seeing as there’s just no way the convenience of this new ordering system could not be popular.
The beers chosen for the menu are based more on popularity than anything else though. You’ll get choices like VB, Great Northern, and Corona. Queenslanders get XXXX as well, while Victorians have got Furphy to choose from.
Victorians are in a better position overall.
“Beer culture has been complicated with so much choice”, said Pizza Hut Australia CMO Chet Patel, who oversaw some commissioned research that revealed a significant number of Aussies feel judged if they don’t make the right beer choices in front of their friends. “We wanted to make the choice simple for Aussies – hot pizza with the ice cold beer you know and love”.
