Guilty and Bistro Morgan are catering College Football Sydney Cup with special burgers and donuts

Australia’s casual eats scene is so damn fine that of course the sports industry is going to want a slice. The organisers behind College Football Sydney Cup have had the good sense to move away from plastic-tasting hotdogs and stale-tasting doughnuts and enlist the help of some real pros to cater match day on 27th August at Allianz Stadium. The pros: Jimmy Hurlston (AKA Jimmy’s Burgers) of Guilty (and Easey’s) and prodigal donut champ Morgan Hipworth of Melbourne’s super popular Bistro Morgan.

With Jimmy taking care of the burgers and Morgan flipping doughnuts, fans heading along on match day will get to tuck into some specially created fare that’s been inspired by the two competing colleges – Stanford and Rice.

Hurlston has created a Stanford University inspired burger which is being described as three flavour-rich beef patties coated in Swiss cheese and sandwiches in between a soft red bun, as well as a Rice University inspired burger that’s takes two beef patties, American cheddar and slow-cooked pulled pork with Texan BBQ sauce.

“Sydney-siders have a great passion for both food and sport, so it is very exiciting to be able to bring the two together and showcase the burgers from Guilty to fans at the College Football Sydney Cup”, said Hurlston. “When we sat down to design our Rice and Stanford University themed burgers, our aim was to create a taste sensation that embodied the essence of each University”.

Hipworth’s contribution is no less exciting, offering fans a Stanford doughnut with light, fluffy brioche filled with salted caramel, dipped in dulche de leche glaze, and then topped with sticky pecans and a dark chocolate drizzle. He’s Rice Uni creation will also be a light and fluffy brioche doughnut, but instead filled with sticky maple bacon and then topped with original glaze and a smoky BBQ sauce syringe.

All this has evidently made Allianz Stadium caterer Delaware North Australia step their game up for the match, curating a menu especially for the day with indulgent takes on American classics including chilli beef empanadas, two-foot long hot dogs, Texas BBQ pulled pork, hot chicken wings, and chips. Might as well make it a proper American sport game, right?

College Football Sydney Cup takes place on Sunday 27th August at Allianz Stadium, you can grab tickets from ticketek.
