Hophaus’ Oktoberfest brings sausages and sausage dogs to Southgate (Melbourne)

Melbourne’s Hophaus are getting into the thick of their annual Oktoberfest celebrations, spreading an extended program of German themed events from now until Sunday 23rd October. There’s a whole heap of activities planned like a German degustation dinner with the Head Brewer of Weihenstephaner to the return of the Teckelrennen Annual Daschund Race, which will be hosted for the second time this coming weekend.

The modern bier hall expect to attract over 20,000 people across their five-week program, building on last year’s success with a bigger bier selection, a bigger range of events, and more determined sausage dogs racing for that finish line than ever before.

“We’ve worked hard to offer an extensive program of events for this year’s Hoptoberfest – with something for everyone from the Ladies Love Bier luncheon, beer trivia nights, Family Days, Games Day, a special fest menu and more”, said Hophaus Manager Scott Highfield. “Our bier selection will be even bigger with no less than four speciality fest biers flying in from Munich for our celebrations. It’s also been a major coup for Weihenstephaner’s Head Brewer Tobias Zollo to come to Melbourne to host our special degustation dinner. We are predicting record numbers this year, our biggest Hoptoberfest yet!”

Those wanting to witness the Dachshund race will have to head along to Hophaus on Saturday 24th September from 11am. There will be 12 dachshund race heats, leading to a 12pm costume parade and Teckelrennen festival games from 1pm (including The Great Bretzel Bite-Off and apple bopping).
