Making my way from Toronto for a day trip to Niagara Falls, ahead of a long… long flight home to Australia, I knew I had to have a comfortable night’s rest. But I also wanted to make sure I had the best view possible of the falls – and as it happened, at the Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel and Suites, that’s exactly what I got.
My King Bedroom sat on the corner of the 41st floor and came complete with an incredible view of the Horseshoe Falls – to the point where you could still hear its roar even through your thick glass windows. And boy if it wasn’t an amazing view to wake up to in the morning – or even to fall to sleep to, with the Falls lit up beautifully at night. If only that pesky Casino wasn’t in the way! Though, those keen for a bit of a late night gamble or a drink, the hotel is connected via a walkway to the Casino, which is then a short walk from the Falls. So you couldn’t be in a better spot. And it’s worth noting there are nightly fireworks down at the Falls for much of the year! Definitely makes the journey down through the Casino worthwhile.
But you’re not just paying for the view. My room came complete with a flat screen TV, incredibly comfortable King bed and a massive Jacuzzi bath, which was situated at such a point that I could watch TV while laying in the bath, utilising the Peter Thomas Roth toiletries. This made for a little bit of a luxurious way to watch the latest Game of Thrones from Hilton’s extensive channel selection.
Before I allowed myself to get too comfortable, however, I took advantage of one of the restaurants attached to the hotel. Romano’s Macaroni Grill was, as you’d expect, a purveyor of casual Italian cuisine. Like so much of Niagara Falls, or any tourist mecca, it was admittedly a bit overpriced – for the calamari pictured below, a glass of Niagara wine and a penne pasta, I ended up spending some $60 (CAD). But it was a decent meal and a nice way to end what was a incredibly long day. I have to say the wine (a Niagara Falls Chardonnay) wasn’t a bad drop either…
After what had to have been one of the most comfortable sleeps I’ve had in some time, and believe me I’m not just saying that (though I do have to admit I suffered a fairly sleepless week in the lead up thanks to a music conference in Toronto), I enjoyed the hotel’s breakfast buffet, which took over the Macaroni Grill downstairs. Normally it also takes over one of the upstairs bars, overlooking the falls, but unfortunately today that room was closed for maintenance. Nonetheless, I enjoyed a wide range of fruits, cereals, hot breakfast options and an omelette bar where you piled up your own ingredients for the chef. A nice touch to a must have addition to any upmarket breakfast buffet. Now, how do I get myself one of these chefs to come to my house every morning?
With nightly rates starting from CAD$129, this is definitely on the affordable end of the spectrum for the full service Hilton Brand, and offers everything you could ask for and more. With lovely, recently renovated rooms, great views, exemplary service and a massive 10,000 square foot indoor pool, complete with slide and a fitness centre, you’re going to have everything you need at your fingertips.
