Hotel Review: Mantra 2 Bond Street offers a sophisticated getaway in the heart of Sydney

Stepping into the foyer of Sydney’s Mantra 2 Bond Street, immediately, I am felt like I have been swept up and away from the sheer amount of roadworks happening just outside the door. Unfortunately for the hotel, the road works on George Street don’t seem to be stopping any time soon, but watching the amount of people – couples, businesspeople, families – streaming in and out of the hotel, it’s safe to say Mantra 2 Bond Street has nothing really to worry about.

Upon entering the hotel, the Memento Lounge & Bistro greets you immediately, offering food throughout as well as a place to have meetings or, in my case, take a seat while my check in process was completed. The concierge staff were apologetic when my room turned out to not be ready and were quick to remedy the situation.

Entering my Executive Studio Apartment, I was impressed by the way Mantra have again – this is the second of their hotels I have stayed in – made great use of space. The tiled kitchen is spacious for this apartment, while the sunken lounge enhances the loftiness of the apartment’s layout.

The bedroom itself overlooks George Street while still offering ample privacy with black out curtains. The queen size bed is plush and granted me an excellent night’s sleep, though the lounge room did offer an option for a sofa bed, should I have been travelling with more than one other person. With a built in robe and full laundry and ironing facilities included, this apartment could sustain anyone really well if they were looking to stay for more than a few nights.

The separate bathroom is resplendent in marble and although it is smaller, the shower and toilet/vanity are fitted in comfortably – you don’t feel cramped for room at all. The usual amenities are provided, hairdryer, plenty of towels – I found I wasn’t left needing anything extra during my stay at all.

Exploring the upper levels of the hotel, there’s an impressive gym that can be accessed, while the rooftop plays host to an excellent heated pool and jacuzzi, as well as a separate BBQ area, making this a primo choice for summer vacations and getaways.

In terms of Mantra 2 Bond Street’s location, you couldn’t ask for a better situated hotel for any visitor to Sydney. If you’re looking to knock the Darling Harbour district out of the way, you’re a short walk from it. As mentioned before, the hotel faces out on to George Street in the CBD, making everything pretty much within walking distance of each other. Should you want to venture further out, you’re a stone’s throw from Wynyard Station.

A convenient location for travellers looking for a comfortable stay in Sydney (let’s be real, you’re going to be paying money any time you’re going to visit the city), Mantra have solidified for themselves a great base in the Harbour City.
