Having visited Bali six times, I thought I’d discovered all the hidden gems the island had to offer. So, when I found Amarta Beach Retreat, with its infinity pools overlooking the black sands of Pasut Beach, I was pleasantly surprised.
Nestled on the serene coastline of Tabanan in Bali, Amarta Beach Retreat is a slice of paradise that feels like a world away from the usual tourist crowds. Located about 90 minutes from bustling Seminyak, this tranquil retreat offers a perfect escape for those seeking peace, natural beauty, and authentic Balinese hospitality.
The retreat is set amidst lush greenery and overlooks the sparkling Indian Ocean. It’s close to the famous Tanah Lot Temple, making it an excellent spot for cultural explorers. You can even take a little day trip to the Jatiluwih rice terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The surrounding area offers a glimpse into traditional Balinese life, with quiet villages and friendly locals selling their wares.
The rooms are a perfect blend of modern comfort and traditional charm. I was in the 68 square-meter garden villa, an older-style room featuring a private terrace, oversized bathtub and a lovely large dressing room. My only lament was that I couldn’t see the ocean from my balcony. However, there were plenty of other spots on the property to sit and be mesmerised by the waves.
The on-site spa was a happy discovery, and I indulged in a blissful massage (thank you, Sri), which was the highlight of my stay. There is an activity offered almost every day of the week. Next time, I’d love to take part in one of the yoga classes or sound healings and join the guided cycling tour, which looked stunning.
As a vegan, I was delighted to see various plant-based options at the on-site restaurant Lilly by the Sea. However, two of the vegan meals I ordered were not vegan, so if you have any allergies, triple-check with the kitchen. They quickly rectified the issue and the vegan meals I eventually got turned out to be super fresh and delicious.
If you’re heading to Bali and craving its quieter, more authentic side, Amarta Beach Retreat is an absolute must. Picture yourself lounging by an infinity pool, gazing out at the shimmering black sands and endless ocean. It’s the perfect place to put your phone down, soak in the beauty, and reconnect while you truly unwind.
