Jack Daniel’s are bringing a pop-up Barrel House to Southbank for 150th anniversary (Melbourne)

2016 marks the 150th anniversary of the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, which today famously stores 2.3 million barrels of Whisky across 88 barrel houses. It’s an impressive and landmark achievement for one of the most well-known names in the drinks industry, so of course they are pulling out all stops for events to commemorate the occasion around the world, one of which is bringing a pop-up Barrel House to Melbourne’s Southbank for 10 days of warm Southern hospitality, live music, and entertainment.

The Jack Daniel’s Barrel House pop-up will kick off on June 24th and remain looming over the river until July 3rd, presenting visitors with a recreation of an authentic barrel house with crafted drinks and deep south eats, handled by San Antone by Bludso’s BBQ. Expect a menu of Southern American cuisine especially designed for the pop-up right alongside big, bold expressions and cocktails. One of the cocktails folks can expect is the signature Lynchburg Lemonade which should go down a treat with the packed live music program.

Live music will be a big part of the pop-up, and Jack Daniel’s have went and got some big names like Aussie rockers Kingswood – fresh from recording their new album in Nashville – who will team with Epic Brass for a set of what’s being described as originals and “renditions of classic hits” (Kingswood always hit a home run with covers). With a full brass band in tow, Kingswood be opening up the proceedings, kicking off a line-up that also includes Furnace and The Fundamentals, 10-strong swing band The Little JC Big Band, multi-genre outfit The Tarantinos, Pat Capocci, Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, and Shirazz. A collection of Melbourne brass heroes, known as The Immortal Silver Cornet Band, will also be playing multiple sets throughout the pop-up, recreating Jack Daniel’s own Silver Cornet Band circa late 1800s in Lynchburg.

The pop-up will also offer a series of DJ sets from the likes of Andras Fox and Oscar Key Sung, and even some Rockbilly Dance Lessons courtesy of Limpin’ Jimmy & The Swingin’ Kitten.
