James Squire will release limited edition Hop Father XPA in January

Now in its second year, the limited edition Hop Father has become an anticipated annual fixture on the release calendar for legendary brewery James Squire. It’s latest iteration is the Hope Father XPA newly released and brewed especially by seventh descendants of James Squire, brothers Ben, Matt and Chris Cooper.

The brothers got together at Malt Shovel Brewery in Sydney’s Camperdown to give the Hop Father a little extra punch, dry hopping it up with Denali and Eureka to give the beer a profile bursting with citrus and pine notes, prefaced by a very pleasant and subtle pineapple aroma.

“It’s not every day you get the brew a beer with your brothers in what was truly a family affair”, explained Matt Cooper. “The best thing about being involved in the brewing process was that we weren’t just pushing random buttons at Malt Shovel; we were actively involved in the mash, adding the hops and even got to pick a bottle straight off the bottling line”.

The brothers worked with Malt Shovel Brewery’s Head Brewer Haydon Morgan to produce the beer, which will be available at Dan Murphy’s nationwide and on tap at James Squire Brewhouses from early January 2018.
