Located in Sydney’s greater western suburb of Liverpool Gemelle Ristorante Italiano is taking the Italian tradition of warmth and generosity to a new level with the launch of their ultimate Butcher’s Feast. The restaurant which established itself firmly in the community in the early 90’s has become known for its sophisticated take on hearty, regional italian cuisine.
The feast has been created with the aim of simulating a classic European experience which translates to something not unfamiliar to most folks, an extravagant shared banquet where only the choicest cuts of meats sourced from local free range farms will be showcased accompanied by a fine glass of matched wine, or two.
Expectant guests will be faced with a impressive anti pasto platter to start in true provincial style, loaded up with tempting items such as zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, crumbed mozzarella with talegio fondue, salt and pepper calamari, BBQ king prawns, arancini, stuffed green olives with goat’s cheese, sliced prosciutto and fresh buffalo mozzarella, accompanied by a fresh fruity Livio Fellugia Pinot Grigio DOC.
The main event promises to not be for the faint hearted or shallow bellied with cuts of chargrilled marinated Black Angus T-bone steak; 900g Cape Grim tomahawk steak; crispy skin pork belly; chargrilled whole spatchcock; pan seared pork fillet infused with sage butter; slow cooked lamb shoulder, and juicy lamb rump on offer. Complementary, substantial sides round off the protein packed line-up and feature rocket and truffle pecorino salad, and sweet potato and pumpkin roasted in olive oil and garlic. A matched Farnese Edizione Cinque Autoctoni Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Negro Amaro Red Malvisia. will accompany this portion of the meal.
Given the heftiness of the array of food on offer it’s good to know sweet relief will be light and delicate and come in the form of a homemade apple tart with vanilla bean cream, ice cream and mixed berry jam, along with Italian dessert wine Passito Pantalleria.
Sessions are limited to a maximum of ten patrons at $159 per person, and can be enjoyed privately with views to restaurant’s open kitchen, or cordoned off for those of us who really like to get into some proper unadulterated feasting. Gemelle’s Butcher’s Feast is shaping up to be a perfect long, leisurely and unashamedly gluttonous opportunity to share with loved ones.
