As we take a seat for dinner at Rockpool Bar & Grill, Neil Perry reminisces how Sundays are set aside for family dinners and sharing a beautifully cooked roast at the table together. This nostalgia and sense of family are what have inspired the new Sunday roast menu with large format meat as the hero of the meal.
The share-style Sunday dining experience is suitable for a group of 6 to 10 people with sides chosen according to numbers. As we delve into autumn, there’s no better time to gather with friends and family for hearty slow roasted lamb or a whole suckling pig.
During our shared dinner, we’re treated to the 2-kilo braid of Cape Grim Beef Fillet with Café de Paris Butter ($350), which is beautifully tender and packed with flavour. But it’s the Slow Roasted Lamb and Potato Puglia Style ($240) that steals my heart – the oversized pan alone with abundant layers of lamb and potato is quite the sight. Falling off the bone, the Suckling Pig from the Charcoal Oven ($700 for whole, $350 for half) is outrageously flavoursome. A few fresh salads on the side to complement our meat feast.
Other options on the special roast menu include Whole Roasted Cape Grim Beef Sirloin on the Bone ($360), Whole Roasted Lamb Saddle Stuffed with Dates and Almond ($350), and Wood Fire Rotisserie Roasted Porchetta with Mustard Fruits (3-4kg, $300).
The Sunday roast menu must be ordered by the Wednesday prior as the meat is ordered in especially, then slow roasted over the wood fire or in the charcoal oven.
