As Chippendale’s Kensington Street precinct continues to grow, Sydney welcomes a fresh new café by the name of Concrete Jungle, an apt name for a space that has been brought to life with touches of vibrant greenery, shaped as a “serene oasis” in the midst of one of the city’s busiest areas. Though a large amount of natural light helps the cafe’s rose gold glow spring to life, its not just about the aesthetics as the new menu is being handled by Bryan O’Callaghan, who has worked wonders over at eastern Sydney favourite Harry’s Bondi, in partnership with co-owner Mo Mrad (founder of Culture Bean in Kogarah). Joining the duo is sous chef Iain Haywood, who comes from London’s Chez Bruce to help the kitchen maintain its focus on sustainable ingredients and creativity.
“We wanted to create a welcoming, tranquil atmosphere full of foods that nourish the body and make people feel good,” offered O’Callaghan, referencing a potent and anti-inflammatory Blue Majik smoothie bowl as one of the primary examples.
Breakfast dishes currently being served from the kitchen include the dragonfruit chia pudding, wagyu brasaola and house-smoked salmon, while lunch is taken care of with the likes of tuna tartare, almond tofu, and roast pumplkin with savoury granola.
The team will also be serving up coffees made with a specialty blend called “Calibrate Coffee”, offered by Sydney roasters Gabriel Coffee.
