Do you love a good drop? I certainly do, so I was shocked to hear during the recent launch event for NSW Wine Month how little local produce us Sydneysiders drink. Steve Cox, the CEO of Destination NSW, was on hand for the event and revealed to the gathered press that only 12% of the wine found on menus across the city originates in NSW.
A figure made only more alarming when you consider there are 16 wine making regions across the state. The Hunter, Mudgee, Shoalhaven, Canberra, Gundagai, the Southern Highlands and more. We know the names and we love the wine… don’t we?
During NSW Wine Month, there will be plenty of chances to find out. The month-long event Is looking to inspire New South Welshman (and women) to choose local wines. A full program of events will allow oenophiles to dip their beak in crystal-bound pools of red and white, all centered around one of Sydney’s greatest hang outs, The Rocks.
Some great names will be on hand, with 40 wineries from across the state confirmed to be in attendance. They’ll all be at the marquee event, the Sydney Cellar Door. It’s set to be the biggest wine event of the year and it’s unfolding in full view of the Opera House.
You know what they say, “wine flies when you’re having fun!”
