OzHarvest are hosting a free food rescue feast across Australia this week

OzHarvest are bringing back their annual Think.Eat.Save event this week, aiming to feed members of the public for free in cities both major and regional across Australia. Set up on Monday 25th July from 11:30am to 2:30pm, the food rescue organisation and some of the best Chefs in Australia will dish up plates made from “rescued” food. Sydney’s event will also feature a panel of food industry experts who will be discussing the issues of food waste, food security, and sustainability.

This is the fourth year OzHarvest have brought this popular event to the public, showcasing the value of food rescue and encouraging increased awareness amongst the general public, while also providing them with some delicious brunch/lunch fare from different culinary teams in each city. Sydney for example, will once again have the event in Martin Place with a pool of chefs made up of big names groups like Rockpool Group (Neil Perry), ARIA Catering (Matt Moran), The Star, BlackStar Pastry, and SumoSalad.

According to OzHarvest, food wastage is currently costing Australians up to $10 billion each year. Events like this are aimed to encourage the fight against food wastage while also showing us how significant the impact can be, and delicious stopping it is.

For Sydney, a special menu has been designed by the collective talents of the above, resulting in dishes like Rescued Beef & Lemongrass Meatballs served with braised spinach, peas, potato, and proscuitto; and a Sustainably Sourced Hot Dog made from pork sausage, bacon jam, crispy onion, and mustard on a milk bun. BlackStar will be dishing out their famous Starberry & Watermelon Cake Trim Trifle along with Excess Croissant Bread and Butter Pudding.

Similar menus will also be available at the same time across each city and town listed below. Note that unless otherwise stated, all Think.Eat.Save events will take place from 11:30am-2:30pm on Monday 25th July. Head on down and don’t forget to hashtag any social media images with #mealforameal to help OzHarvest deliver meals to those in need.
