One of the most exciting developments in Sydney’s ever growing craft beer scene has been the recent opening of The Noble Hops, a Redfern small bar with an unwavering focus on inventive and rare brews. While the city’s craft beer scene has seen some fantastic pubs dedicated to local brews, Noble Hops sets itself apart as a small bar with a very discerning staff who have sought out some exclusives that have seen a following of local enthusiasts build quite rapidly.
Both international and local craft beers will be available on the various taps, rotating to bring in new, interesting brews which owner Joe Wee is active in seeking out around the world. Just this past week saw local champs Pirate Life Brewing (Pale Ale) and Batch Brewing (West Coast IPA) well represented alongside U.S fav Knee Deep Brewing (Hopologist DIPA), but the beauty of The Noble Hops is that the list is forever rotating to constantly showcase both traditional and progressive beers, highlighting how diverse this scene really is.
Set up in the former digs of The Angry Pirate – and retaining their owner Peter Groom as manager – the bar is a distinctive spot in Redfern, with exposed brick and dimly lit neon energised by a soundtrack of rockabilly and psych-rock. It’s loud, exciting, and has a fairly open policy when it comes to food seeing as they have no kitchen. Free spicy popcorn may tide you guests over for awhile, but those who enter also have access to pizza from The Noble Hops’ neighbor La Coppola, a Sicilian pizzeria which is itself gaining quite the reputation with Redfern locals.
Some Whiskies and a small handful of off-the-menu wines and classic cocktails are also available just to widen the options a bit, but with so many interesting and uncommon craft beers on the menu, it’s obvious what the top pick is here.
As mentioned above, and like all good craft beer venues, The Noble Hops regularly change their beer list so for updates it’s best to follow them on social media HERE.
