Stockade Brew Co to open new craft beer bar in Marrickville (Sydney)

Inner-West Sydney always welcomes new craft beer bars with open arms, and the latest will certainly be no exception as the country’s fastest growing independent craft beer producer, Stockade Brewing Co, opens shop in Marrickville this month. The new fully operating brewery, tasting room and bar will repurpose an old factory space with a large range of house beers, unique brews, tasting experiences and planned collaborations with local food, spirit and wine brands.

Up to 250 guests will be able to pack into the new space, which centres around a bar and communal dining area designed by RAD Studios with a mix of steel screens and wooden furniture, aimed as an homage to both Sydney’s many classic art deco pubs and the industrial surrounds of Marrickville. The bar should be a big drawcard – aside from obvious reasons – with repurposed barrel staves which have been pulled from past barrels used for Stockade’s beers and worked in with customised lightbox menu boards and LED lighting. An additional tasting room will be able to hold 14 guests for intimate sessions.

Those expecting variety will definitely not be left wanting. In addition to limited edition brews and Stockade’s core range – 8 Bit, Chop Shop, Duel and Hop Splicer – there will be four revolving guest taps at the bar, given over to the likes of Bucket Boys and Hop Nations, plus a rotation of four barrel-aged beers created and aged on-site. They’ve already got one of those locked in too; upon launch, Head Brewer Daniel Fardon will be unveiling a special 6.5% Kentucky bourbon barrel-aged IIPA, brewed using U.S Cascade, Citra and Centennial hops.

Beer won’t be the only thing on the menu either. Urban Winery Co and a range of Australian craft distilleries have signed up to help fill the wine and cocktail list, with wines that are also blended on site and aged in Stockade barrels. and cocktails use a rotating roster of spirits infused with Stockade hops.

“We’ve been really fortunate to have earned a lot of support for our beers over the last few years, so opening a space in the home of Sydney micro-brewing felt like the natural progression”, said Stockade Brew Co’s Anton Szpitalak. “A brewery is a place for a beer drinker to connect with brewers and the process behind it, so having the tasting room at the heart of the warehouse brings this to the forefront”.

Food truck stalwarts Eat Drink Collective have come on board to help the bar up its food game, creating a line-up of monthly-changing collaborations that should make for some interesting beer-food pairings. First up will be Baby Rey’s and their American-style burgers and fries.

Committed to creating their own dynamic culture, Stockade Brew Co will be hosting a massive schedule of tasting sessions, brewery tours, cocktails masterclasses, butchery masterclasses, beer and cheese pairings, and other such activities each week.
