Pushing into the spring season, James Squire have unleashed a tropical flavour onto the market, tasking Camperdown’s Malt Shovel Brewery with creating a new limited release titled the James Squire Tall Tale Tropicana Spring Ale.
Aiming for a sessionable profile, the beer is being defined as a complex, light ale, making use of tropical fruit and hops to shape the bill. Malt Shovel Brewery’s Head Brewer Haydon Morgan describes the release as “light in body and mild in bitterness”, describing how Tall Tall infuses guava and passionfruit pulp on top of a pale ale base.
“It may sound like the tasting notes would be better suited to a fruity sauvignon blanc. But trust us – it’s a beer”.
The inspiration for Tall Tale follows an ever-growing trend of brewers experimenting with different fruit combinations. “Adding fruit to a brew gives it a refreshing twist, particularly to traditional styles such as Pale Ales and IPAs,” continued Morgan. “With spring in the air, we thought it was time to seize the season and give one a crack ourselves”.
This is James Squire’s third special edition release this year, following Hop Father in January and Cabin Fever in June.
