One of the greatest food trucks to have ever hit Sydney was undoubtedly Happy as Larry, a genuine wood-fired pizza oven on wheels that would regularly pull up at all sorts of events, festivals and general gatherings with fresh, delicious and generous pizza. The truck is no more – expect for private functions and the like – but Happy as Larry is still very much in business, now settling into a permanent spot in Sydney CBD. In collaboration with Adam Choker of The Grounds, head pizzaiolo Anthony Severino and co-owner/friend Chris Lu are now operating a cafe version of Happy as Larry, located at the MetCentre on Jamison Street.
A casual Italian eatery, the cafe is a relaxed, lunch-focused space that is still very much Happy as Larry at its best. Wood-fired Neapolitan pizza is served hot out of the oven alongside a selection of pastas. The pizza menu is still touting a nice range, from lobster, black truffle pate, oyster mushroom and sea salt, to speck and pineapple. Hell, the team are even doing breakfast dishes now, including house-baked granola, eggs benedict, and acai bowls along with coffee from The Grounds and a selection of pastries.
