Debuted as part of their Bacon Festival menu earlier this year, Cuckoo Callay‘s epic Bacon Macdaddy stands as perhaps Newtown’s single most popular cafe dish of the year. Just head along to the Newtown hotspot on any given day and you’d see plenty of these being demolished by hungry diners, keen to get a serving of that hit of double-smoked bacon, bacon mac‘n’cheese, a fried egg, and “bacony” tomato jam in a crispy toasted croissant.
Meanwhile, a few suburbs over, Alexandria’s Textbook-Boulangerie Patisserie has seen similar success with their limited edition Truffle Crossaint.
The regular Bacon Macdaddy
Seeing as the two businesses linked up for Cuckoo’s Bacon Festival launch event earlier in the year, they have come together to pimp up their respective treats, blending their two creations to make for a Truffle Bacon Macdaddy, which will be offered on both their menus for only two days – this weekend, 13th and 14th August.
The Truffle Bacon Macdaddy will consist of double smoked bacon, bacon mac’n’cheese, a 63 degree egg, and tomato relish served on a Textbook truffle croissant, with shaved fresh black truffle that has been sourced from Canberra.
