One of this year’s biggest openings is upon us. The crew behind the famous Grounds of Alexandria is now putting the finishing touches on their hugely anticipated Sydney CBD opening: The Grounds of the City. Mirroring much of what made the sprawling inner-west property such a huge hit for both locals and visitors, this big second location for The Grounds will complete the ongoing transformation of The Galeries, located right in the middle of the city opposite Queen Victoria Building.
Officially opening later this month, The Grounds of the City is being described as a throwback to classic city life, vintage-minded in contrast to the ultra-modern ambiance of the original. This means you should notice plenty of quirky details once the space is unveiled in a few weeks, no doubt another win for design studio Acme & Co. who have brought together aspects such as antique theatre pendant lighting, up-cycled timber floors and hand-crafted stained glass windows to create this ode to old-school hospitality.
Interactive and engaging window displays will welcome people off busy George Street into this bygone era, ushering them into a world that features shoe-shines for waiting customers, a first-class barista bar with state-of-the-art modular espresso technology and “coffee sommeliers”, and even a roaming custom-made trolley offering cake paired with coffee or tea.
“The Grounds is bringing soul back to the city, stated a confident Ramzey Choker, co-founder and creative director for The Grounds. “It’s for those who want more from the CBD, those who want to reconnect…we’re combining the best of the past with future innovations to create a landmark that doesn’t just serve up a coffee fix, but an incredible customer experience that inspires you to make it through the work day”.
Group Exec. Chef Paul McGrath has worked up an all day brasserie-style menu to keep the open-style kitchen busy, allowing guests both dine-in and takeaway offerings that we expect will more than meet the high expectations set by the playful food over in Alexandria.
