For an Australian first, Nike are teaming up with Foot Locker and Melbourne Streetball Madness this weekend to put on a huge showcase of basketball, music, DJ’ing, art and sneakers in the world’s most liveable city. Dubbed Battle Force, the free-entry event will take over the sprawling Hangar 85 Essendon to give competition and creativity an open space to play.
Anchored with an energetic mix of sport and art, Battle Force will feature the finals of the Melbourne Streetball Madness 5×5 competition as well as joining pick-up games, DJ sets, live art, an on-site barbershop from Brother Wolf, plenty of Melbourne’s best food trucks, on-site tattooing and a special Foot Locker showroom.
Perhaps most exciting of them all will the Black Canvas Collective, a worldwide project which in Australia will be headed by Foot Locker as they offer customised sneakers in partnership with Australian street artist Phibs. The exclusive run of 70 hand-customised Air Force 1’s will be on display at the event and a selection will be available for purchase, forming part of a wider celebration as the iconic sneaker turns 35 years old.
Can’t make it to the event? The shoes (in black and white) will also be on sale from Sunday via footlocker.com.au.
