Westfield Sydney announces series of Lunar New Year events

Westfield Sydney will celebrate the start of the Chinese (or Lunar) New Year, the Year of the Monkey, by hosting a range of in-centre activities. From 28th January onwards, shoppers and visitors alike will be able to get a taste of Chinese culture by participating in beautiful events such as the Chinese Calligraphy demonstration or the Tea-Tasting events, or even something as fun as the Dumpling Eating Contest!

The Westfield Sydney Lunar New Year celebrations include:

  • Chinese Calligraphy
    A Chinese calligrapher will showcase traditional calligraphy with a public art show.

    Where: Microsoft
  • Tea-Tasting and High Tea Events
    High Tea events are held throughout the Chinese New Year celebration weeks, with Laduree offering free samples of tea, paired with matching macaroons.
    When: Jan 30 – Feb
    Where: Opposite Laduree & Linneys, Level 3
  • Dragon Dance
    Catch the Chinese dragon dance on the traditional “lucky day for business” to bring good luck and fortune to shoppers and retailers
    When: 12 Feb, 12 pm
    Where: Pitt Street Mall
  • Dumpling Eating Competition
    Join the dumpling eating competition at New Shanghai! The competition is set to be as big as the appetites of the competitors, and will be hosted by a celebrity MC!
    When: 19 Feb
    Where: New Shanghai

There will also be shopping offers available from 4th to the 8th February, and dining offers available from 7th February. Head to Swarovski, Sephora, MJ Bale and more for shopping offers and in-store experiences.

If that’s not enough to reel you in, Westfield Sydney will be giving out fortune cookies at the concierge desks on levels 2 and 6, but only one of the 5000 fortune cookies given away will hold a special message for a $1,000 gift card.
