It seems Newtown brewers Young Henrys have joined in on the adoration of Art Gallery of NSW’s current major summer exhibition, The Greats: Masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland, drawing inspiration from the works on display to craft an exclusive boutique brew for the gallery’s Up late with The Greats series. Titled Old Master the brew has been designed to celebrate the free program of events, which has activities running at the gallery every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
The colours, dramatic lighting, and innovation of pieces like An Old Woman Cooking Eggs by Diego Velazquez and An Interior with a Young Viola Player by Gerrit Dou were what most motivated Young Henrys to come up with Old Master, a smooth malt driven beer made in fashion with a classic Scottish ale with gentle oak and spicy hops, which is available at all events part of Up late with The Greats, as well as select venues around Sydney and Canberra.
The Greats presents on of the most substantial showcases of European old master paintings ever seen in Australia, spanning 400 years from the Renaissance to Impressionism. Works by the most lauded names in Western art, including Botticelli, Leonardo, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Monet, Degas, Gauguin, and Cézanne.
