With San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) wrapped up for this year, there’s no doubt each year’s conference rules the entertainment universe with its mind blowing announcements from films, TV shows and the latest and upcoming games. So without further ado, let’s recap some of the biggest announcements you may have missed this year.
FILMS
First off, let’s not pretend like we don’t care about DC’s cinematic universe, because the latest trailer for Aquaman may prove that DC actually gives a damn about it’s characters. Once again portrayed by Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones, Justice League), Aquaman features some serious action; arguably fit for a king of the ocean. You can catch Aquaman in theatres 21 December, 2018.
In keeping with the superhero trend, Shazam made its debut with an over the top trailer about a kid who yells ‘Shazam’ and turns into an adult with superpowers. Yeah, it’s that insane. Starring Zachary Levi (Chuck) in the titular role also seems like a natural fit. However, this approach seems interesting to say the least, as the trailer tries throws in some comedic twists and asks some interesting questions. For example, how do superheroes actually discover the full extent of their abilities? Well, you can check out the trailer below for yourself and find out. Shazam is set to hit theatres April, 2019.
Glass is the sequel to M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable I never knew I wanted, and with that, we see the first official trailer starring returning actors Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) and James McAvoy (Wanted), the latter who was introduced in the thriller Split, which was revealed to be linked to Unbreakable. There’s a new breed of superhero in town, and you can check it out for yourself down below. Glass will release in theatres January, 2019.
From director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and producers James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) and Jon Landau (Titanic) comes a new trailer for Alita: Battle Angel. Based on the Gunnm manga series, this newest incarnation sees actor Rosa Salazar (Insurgent)don some awesome special effects as the titular character, which not only features some kick ass action scenes, but a deeper story of identity and belonging. Alita: Battle Angel will release in theatres Boxing Day, 2018.
The Harry Potter universe returns to the silver screen once again in the latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald showcases Johnny Depp’s (Pirates of the Caribbean) return as Grindelwald, the dark wizard before ‘He Who Must Not be Named’. Throw in Jude Law as a young Professor Dumbeldore and we may just have a winner on our hands, when the film releases in theatres 16 November, 2018.
Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) leads the charge in a new trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. As you may have guessed, the titular monster is back to take down a bunch of titans that have been hiding within the Earth for thousands of years. However, the real monsters may be the people around us. It’s unclear if this is a sequel to the 2014 reboot, but either way, it’s good to see The King of Monsters back once more, with the film releasing in theatres May, 2019. Let them fight.
TV SERIES
Titans debuted with a brand new trailer, based on the popular animated TV series. The show immediately presents itself as a warped version of the DC character we know and love, albeit not for the kiddies this time around. It’s also clear that Robin has some strong feelings towards his former mentor, Batman. At the time of writing, no official release date has been announced. We’ll let you check it out for yourself:

Yet another spinoff of a popular TV show, Mayans M.C. got it’s first official trailer based on the rival bikie gang seen in Sons of Anarchy. Creator Kurt Sutter is back once more to ensure the show keeps its gritty and violent roots of an equally violent motorcycle gang. Mayans M.C. will premiere 4 September, 2018.

After being cut short, it seems as though animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars is back to finish things the right way. After an eerie opening, Jedi Knight Anakin discovers his apprentice is once again in need of assistance. Here’s to a war unfinished… until now. As of writing, no official release date has been announced.
After a critically successful first season, Netflix series Star Trek: Discovery is back for a second season with a brand new trailer, hinting at a new alien threat that harkens back to the very existence of mankind. Captain Christopher Pike played by Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) is at the helm, and we couldn’t be more excited for an early 2019 release. Here’s to the final frontier:
AMC’s The Walking Dead saw a new trailer for its ninth season, showing us an ageing Rick now focused on rebuilding a new town for the gang settle down in. While the pesky Negan still lurks behind the curtain, it may seems as though things are finally looking up. At least, for now. As the final season for Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually) and Lauren Cohan (The Boy), we can only hope this season is one to remember, when it premieres 7 October, 2018.

With Saul Goodman now out of practice, we see familiar characters finally come together to paint that sweet picture we’ve all been waiting for, leading up to the events of Breaking Bad. Once again starring Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad) in the leading role, it seems that no matter where Saul goes, trouble is never too far behind. If The Ghostbusters aren’t around, Better Call Saul. Check out the latest trailer below, with the premiere set for 6 August, 2018.
GAMES
Spider-Man swung into SDCC 2018 with a new story trailer for the upcoming Playstation 4 exclusive, simply titled Spider-Man. With New York city crumbling by the day, an already experienced Spider-Man will be tested once again against a bunch of famous villains already revealed in previous trailers. In this trailer however, we see that Silver Sable has been hired by Norman Osborne during his election to minimise any threats that may stand in his way. With Miles Morales and Mary Jane Watson along for the ride, this may be Spidey’s toughest challenge yet. Spider-Man will release exclusively on Playstation 4 7 September, 2018.
