The word “epic” is thrown around far too often these days, especially in this Marvel vs DC comic book universe we now occupy. It takes a new Star Wars trailer to pop up and reminds us the high bar that “epic” has been set at. And at the end of last week, we enjoyed this reminder, as the first full length trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story made its debut, already enjoying more than 15 million YouTube views on the official Star Wars channel.
The film sits in between episodes 3 and 4, as “a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.” For those that remember the original 1977 film, Episode IV: A New Hope, let’s put this in some pretty simple terms: Remember how R2-D2 had the plans for the Death Star? Well, now we’ll find out how how he got them.
The film stars an incredible cast, including Forest Whitaker, Felicity Jones, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna and Australia’s own Ben Mendelsohn. Though if the trailer is anything to go by, it seems the comic-relief for this film is going to be Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO. Oh and Vader is back. Watch it now and get excited. Though we know you already are.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits Australian cinemas on 15th December 2016.
