When renegade director Anna Broinowski decided to make a film to stop a planned gas mine near her Sydney home she sought help… from North Korea?
Anna gained unprecedented access to the North Korean film industry and got hot tips from Kim Jong Il’s propaganda protégés. The story makes Vice Mag’s little North Korean ditty seem like tepid posturing in comparison. It reads like some right wing nutter’s fantasy about how the lefty environmentalists are really commie spies colluding with authoritarian regimes to destroy freedom. But no, this is not fantasy, this is real life. The filmmakers united will never be defeated. Imagine the hyperventilation it’ll cause the shock jocks.
I’d watch it for the utter weirdness (and worthy cause) of it all, but seeing as it is by the lauded director of Forbidden Lie$ it’s likely very good. I hope she succeeds in her quest, those frackers are evil fuckers. I used to think that golf was the best way to ruin a park, but no, you can also poison it with a mine.
Aim High in Creation! premieres this Thursday, June 12th exclusively in Sydney at the Palace Chauvel
