Australian Box Office Report: Close to being toppled, Star Wars remains on top

If you’ve been regularly visiting the site – in lieu of Box Office Reports over the holiday period – we’ve kept you up to date with Star Wars: The Force Awakens destroying every record imaginable. And not much has changed. It still sits on top here in Australia, this week earning a cool AU$4.9 million bringing its total to a whopping AU$79 million.

For the record, its domestic total in The US is $819 million while its worldwide gross sits on US$1.7 billion after a mere 3 weeks in release.

The Revenant opened this week and looks set to take top spot soon earning AU$3.9 million. The drama is going to receive some extra attention over the next couple of weeks after its multiple award wins at the Golden Globes.

A couple of comedies take up third and fourth spot. Sisters starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and Daddy’s Home starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell take up third and fourth spot , respectively, making AU$3.2 million and AU$2.4 million.

And school holidays keeps the money coming as The Good Dinosaur, Alvin and The Chipmunks: Road Trip and Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie all hover above AU$1 million.
